Box Score Hiram, Ohio- Jonathan Wheeler's goal in the 70th minute lifted the DePauw men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Hiram College, Saturday night in North Coast Athletic Conference action.
The Tigers improved to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in NCAC play, while the Terriers dropped to 5-3 on the year and 0-1 in the NCAC.
DePauw controlled the offensive flow of the contest, outshooting Hiram by a 12-4 margin. The Tigers fired two shots on goal in the first half, but were unable to net a goal.
Hiram was able to weather the storm behind strong defensive play, led by Matt Sacher in goal. DePauw was finally able to crack the Terrier's defensive code in the 70th minute when Julian Gonzalez found Zach Hoffman on a crossing pass and Reavis tapped a pass to Wheeler who fired a shot to the back of the net.
The Tigers held a 7-0 edge on corner kicks and committed 15 fouls to Hiram's 11. Jake Pezzuto and the Tigers' defense earned their fourth shutout this season, while Sacher made five saves in a losing effort.
DePauw is back in action Tuesday, September 23, when they host Anderson starting at 5:30 p.m.
