Box Score Greencastle, Ind.- Amid the driving rain and lightning strikes the DePauw Tigers stormed out to a fast start, defeating Hanover College 5-0, Wednesday night at Reavis Stadium.
With the win, DePauw improved to 3-2 overall, while Hanover dropped to 1-3.
Mitch Tabler connected on a cross from Andy Morrison in the 12th minute to put the Tigers in front. Tabler would tally another goal just 17 minutes later on an assist from Adrian Ables. EJ Moore notched DePauw's third goal of the half on an assist from Nick Williams in the 32nd minute.
With just 1:22 left in the first half, lightning forced the teams off the field for nearly an hour.
Following the delay both teams agreed to forgo halftime and keep things moving. Ables scored on an unassisted goal in the 59th minute to put the Tigers up 4-0. Just five minutes later Tabler secured a hat trick after blasting a shot that deflected off a Hanover defender and found the back of the net.
DePauw dominated the contest outshooting Hanover 16-4 with a 5-1 edge on corner kicks. The combination of Jake Pezzuto and Chris Yount secured the shutout for the Tigers, while Trevor Korfhagen grabbed four saves in the loss.
The Tigers are back in action Friday, September 12, when they host Thomas More for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
