Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - Wittenberg scored six runs over the final three innings and forced the "if necessary" game of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament with an 8-7 win. Wittenberg improved to 24-10, while DePauw dropped to 25-18.
Wittenberg took a 2-0 lead in the second as Casey Hobbs walked with two outs and Ashlee Wright delivered a homer to straightaway center.
DePauw matched that in the bottom half of the inning as Gabby Smart led off with a walk and later scored when Beth Chelmowski lifted a homer to right center.
Shannon Lance and Loren Combs led off the Wittenberg fifth with singles before Laura Rose hammered a double to left. Abby Baker reached on a fielder's choice with Combs out at the plate. Rachel Ross then lifted a sacrifice fly to center that scored Rose.
DePauw added one in the fifth as Golden singled with two outs and moved to second when Jennifer Ridge reached on a fielder's choice after the throw to second was late. Linsey Button followed with a single to center that plated Golden.
Wright tripled past a diving Gabby Smart and Kaela Hughes followed with a homer to right center. Combs doubled and scored following an error on the play.
DePauw rallied in the sixth as Megan Landahl, Lauren Krumwiede and Chelmowski led off the frame with walks before Alyssa Durette re-entered in the circle and hit pinch-hitter Grace Hendrickson to drive in Landahl.
Sammi Bell hit into a fielder's choice that forced Krumwiede bat the plater after an 11-pitch at-bat in which she fouled off eight pitches. Golden then lifted a sacrifice fly to right and Ridge reached on an error that scored two and tied the game at 7-7.
Ross homered to left in the top of the seventh and provided Wittenberg with the game-winning run.
