Box Score 2 St. Louis, Mo. - DePauw hit a pair of solo homers in the first game of a doubleheader at Washington University on the way to a 4-1 win over the 23rd-ranked Bears, but the hosts came back for a 5-1 win in the nightcap. DePauw moved to 8-8 on the season, while Washington is now 14-7.
In the opener, DePauw struck first in the second inning as Jennifer Ridge and Megan Landahl led off with bunt singles and Grace Hendrickson advanced both with a sacrifice bunt. Julia Waggoner drove in Ridge with a grounder.
The Tigers made it 2-0 in the third as Sammi Bell led off with a double and moved to third on Taylor Golden's ground out. Gabby Smart's sacrifice bunt plated Bell.
Washington closed the margin to 2-1 in the fourth as Maggie Ingell led off with a double and moved to third on Hannah Mehrle's sacrifice bunt. Stacy Berg followed with a double to left center that scored Ingell. The Bears added another single, but DePauw pitcher Kahla Nolan worked out of the jam.
The Tigers tacked on two more in the fifth as Bell and Golden hit back-to-back solo homers. For Bell it marked the third straight game in which she's homered.
Bell had three of DePauw's nine hits, while Golden and Smart added two each. Kelsey Neal and Kenzie James each had two of the Bears' eight hits.
Nolan improved to 6-5 with the win, while Neal dropped to 4-2.
In the nightcap, the Bears reached the board first as Ingell started the third by reaching on a walk and stealing second. She scored on Paige Biles' triple to left center. Washington made it 2-0 in the fourth on Neal's solo homer to left.
DePauw's lone run came in the top of the fifth when Ridge led off with a single and moved to second on Landahl's sacrifice bunt. Lauren Krumwiede singled Ridge to third and then stole second and a throwing error on the play allowed Ridge to score from third.
The Bears scored three more in the sixth for the final margin.
Three different Tigers had one hit each, while Neal had two of the Bears' five hits.
Hailey Freres dropped to 0-2 after pitching four innings, while Annie Pitkin improved to 7-5 and Brooke Hofer collected her first save.
DePauw travels to Illinois College tomorrow for a 3 p.m. CDT doubleheader.
