Tigers Sweep Home Opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Greencastle, Ind.- After 10 straight road games the Tigers made their home debut Saturday afternoon, grabbing a pair of victories over the visiting Aurora University Spartans. DePauw took game one by a score of 4-3 and won the nightcap 7-2.

The Tigers scored first in the opener on an RBI single from Haleigh Chasteen, scoring Jennifer Ridge. Aurora would answer in the top of the second tying the score after a bit of sloppy defense by DePauw.

Aurora grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third when Stephanie Starr's fielders choice scored Laura Dierking from third. DePauw tied the score in the bottom of the inning when Grace Hendrickson scored on a Spartan throwing error.

DePauw would take the lead for good in fourth inning on a two-RBI single from Ridge, scoring Hendrickson and Megan Landahl. A late homerun from Aurora's Dierking would cut the lead to just one run, but the Spartans could not muster any further threat.

Kahla Nolan improved to 4-3 in the circle after giving up just one earned run over seven innings. Vanessa Hartzell would take the loss for Aurora.

In game two, Aurora benefited from a Tiger error and took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. DePauw answered in the bottom half when the Spartans had their own defensive mishaps allowing Julia Waggoner to score.

Aurora would retake the lead in the fourth on a sac fly, but once again, DePauw was quick to answer, tying the contest on a Beth Chelmowski RBI single that plated Taylor Golden and Sammi Bell.

DePauw would score two runs in the fifth on Bell's two-run single and would add two more runs in the sixth behind Gabby Smart's sac fly and Ridge's RBI single.

Nolan got the complete game win with five strikeouts, while allowing just three hits. Natalie Zanella took the loss for the Spartans.

The Tigers are back in action Saturday, March 15, at 1 p.m. when they travel to Trine University for a doubleheader.
