Behind Newlon's School Records, DePauw in Third at NCAC Championships

Granville, Ohio - Freshman Angela Newlon became the first DePauw female to win a North Coast Athletic Conference swimming title and she helped lead the Tigers to a third-place showing after the first full day of NCAC Swimming and Diving Championship competition at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.

The 15th-ranked Tigers totaled 327 points and trail Kenyon (575) and host Denison (535).

Newlon broke her own school record and established a pool record in the 500-yard freestyle after finishing the prelims in 4:53.77. She then followed it with a 4:50.91 in the finals which also was an NCAC record.

DePauw's 200 free relay of Caroline Bridges, Emily Weber, Erin Horne and Kirsten Olson earned all-NCAC honors after finishing third in 1:36.30.

Weber joined Newlon in the 500 free finals and finished sixth in 5:01.49, while Bridges finished eighth in the 50 free in 23.95 seconds after a 23.91 performance in the prelims.

The Tigers' 400 medley relay of Morgan Graves, Allison Kirby, Newlon and Bridges earned all-NCAC accolades after finishing third in 3:54.01.

Friday's prelims begin at 10 a.m. with finals slated for 6:30 p.m.
