Greencastle, Ind.- A rocky journey through the North Coast Athletic Conference regular season schedule left the DePauw men's soccer team needing a victory in their season finale to qualify for postseason play. The Tigers battled to a 3-2 victory over Denison, securing the fourth seed in the conference tournament.
DePauw (10-7-1, 5-3-1 NCAC) will travel to top-seeded Ohio Wesleyan Wednesday, November 5, for a 7:00 p.m. match. The Bishops (14-3-2, 8-0-1 NCAC) defeated the Tigers by a score of 2-0, when the teams met on October 11, in Delaware, Ohio.
In their first matchup, both teams battled for 84 minutes of scoreless soccer before Ohio Wesleyan broke the stalemate, scoring two goals in the final six minutes of regulation.
Over the past four seasons the Tigers and Bishops have had their fair share of thrilling contests in the NCAC tournament. Last season, Ohio Wesleyan won a thrilling contest, defeating DePauw 6-5 in a penalty shootout.
In the four years that the Tigers have been in the NCAC, Ohio Wesleyan won three of the four regular season matchups. However, DePauw has had the advantage in postseason play, winning two of three tournament matches.
The Tigers will look to channel some magic from the 2011 and 2012 postseasons when they defeated the Bishops in back-to-back NCAC championships and earned trips to the NCAA tournament.
