Box Score Springfield, Ohio- Having locked up the second seed in the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament, the 18th-ranked DePauw field hockey team had one more regular season test before returning to postseason play. The Tigers scored three goals in each half, defeating Wittenberg by a final score of 6-0.
With the win, DePauw improved to 16-2 overall and 12-2 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg dropped to 9-10 on the year and 7-7 in NCAC play.
Maggie Campbell struck first for DePauw, netting an unassisted shot in the 11th minute. Grace Fisher added an unassisted goal in the 13th minute and Kate Jovanovic followed just 49 seconds later, tallying a goal on an assist from Campbell.
Leading 3-0 at halftime, DePauw kept up the offensive pressure as Jovanovic added her second goal of the contest in the 52nd minute. Laynie Thomas scored on an assist from Paige Henry in the 64th minute to extend the lead to 5-0. Addie Ball wrapped up DePauw's scoring with an unassisted goal in the 66th minute.
DePauw outshot Wittenberg 29-14, while Wittenberg held a 10-6 advantage on penalty corners. Sarah Guendert made five saves in the shutout victory and Wittenberg's Sarah Brownell and Laura Jansing combined for 15 saves in a losing effort.
Next Wednesday, November 5, DePauw hosts Denison in the NCAC tournament semifinal match. This contest is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start at Reavis Stadium.
