Five First-Half Scores Propel Tigers to Easy Win at Wooster

Box Score

Wooster, Ohio - DePauw scored on the second play of the game and then four of their first six offensive possessions of the first half on the way to a 42-13 North Coast Athletic Conference win at Wooster. The Tigers improved to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in the NCAC, while the Fighting Scots dropped to 3-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

DePauw junior corner Hamm Hooper set the tone by intercepting Wooster quarterback Gary Muntean on the game's second play and returning it for a 27-yard score just 36 seconds into the contest.

The Tigers' defense forced a three-and-out on the next series and, following a short punt,
DePauw started on its own 49. Amen Galley scored on a 6-yard run and Marko Adams booted the point-after to make it 14-0 with 9:08 left in the opening stanza.

Wooster managed to pick up its initial first down on the next possession, but the DePauw defense again put the clamps down and the offense gained great field position again.

Starting at their own 42, the Tigers needed just six plays to reach paydirt with Matt Hunt tossing a 4-yard pass to Tyler Leising to push the lead to 21-0 with 3:54 remaining in the first quarter.

Hunt's 7-yard run early in the second made it 28-0 and capped an 8-play, 44-yard drive.

The Tigers stopped the Scots on a fourth down run on the next series and DePauw's Thomas Gray picked off Wooster's Jack Marousek at the Wooster 42 and returned it to the 29 on the following possession.

It took DePauw just five plays to cover the 29 yards with Galley scoring on a 2-yard run with 2:42 left in the half to make it 35-0.

Wooster failed to get on the board on its first possession of the second half as Trevor Bowden's 33-yard field goal attempt was wide right.

The Scots did score early in the fourth when Muntean completed a 4-yard pass to Darrian Owens with 11:05 left.

DePauw countered on its next series as Galley scored his third rushing touchdown of the contest on a 6-yard run with just 4:08 remaining.

Wooster's Sean Hackel rounded out the scoring with a 1-yard run with just four seconds left that capped a 14-play, 75-yard series.

Wooster outgained DePauw 353-325 and held a 19-16 advantage in first downs after the Tigers held a 225-118 advantage in first-half yardage.

Galley rushed for 71 yards on 16 carries and Jack Gruber added 38 yards in 12 tries as the Tigers totaled 151 yards on the ground. Hunt completed 18 of 25 passes for 174 yards with one score with Jay D. Robinson and Connor Jeffers each catching five.

Wooster rushed for 105 yards on 39 attempts and the Tigers limited Hackel to a season-low 34 yards on 20 carries. Hackel entered the contest as the NCAC leader with 109.2 rushing yards per outing.

Muntean completed 18 of 32 passes for 210 yards and Jack Marousek connected on 3 of 10 for 38 yards as the hosts totaled 248 yards through the air. Owens caught nine passes for 118 yards and a score.
