Box Score Oberlin, Ohio- Two first-half goals proved to be the difference as the DePauw men's soccer team defeated Oberlin by a final score of 2-1, Saturday afternoon in Oberlin, Ohio.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while the Yeomen dropped to 5-6-2 on the year and 2-2-1 in NCAC play.
DePauw jumped out to a fast start as the dynamic duo of Julian Gonzalez and Andy Morrison connected, leading to Gonzalez's ninth goal of the season in the 9th minute. Mitch Tabler scored the Tigers' second goal of the half in the 31st minute on an assist from Adrian Ables.
Trailing 2-0 at halftime, Oberlin was able to cut DePauw's lead in half on Dean Schapow's unassisted goal in the 61st minute. The Yeomen fired 10 shots in the second stanza, but the Tigers' Jake Pezzuto made three key saves to preserve the win.
Oberlin outshot DePauw 14-11 and held a 7-1 edge on corner kicks. Oidie Kuijpers made three saves in a losing effort, while Pezzuto totaled four in the win.
DePauw currently sits in the top four of the cluttered NCAC standings, with 12 total points and a key matchup coming at the end of October when they travel to Wabash.
The Tigers are back in action Wednesday, October 22, when they travel to Centre College for a non-conference showdown starting at 7:00 p.m.
