Tigers Sweep Oberlin; Remain Unbeaten in NCAC Play

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw pounded out 26 hits and allowed just five on the way to a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of visiting Oberlin by scores of 10-0 and 9-3.

The Tigers improved to 8-12 overall and 4-0 in NCAC play, while the Yeowomen dropped to 2-14 overall and 0-6 in the conference.

DePauw took a quick lead in the opener as Jennifer Ridge led off with a single, moved to second on Amy Hallett's sacrifice bunt and scored on Haleigh Chasteen's single to left.

The Tigers made it 3-0 in the second as Sammi Bell led off with a double, stole third and scored on a throwing error on the play. Samantha Szyska reached on a bunt single, stole second and moved to third on another throwing error. Ridge drove her in with a single to right.

A seven-run fourth made it 10-0 and the Tigers ended the game on the eight-run rule after holding the Yeowomen scoreless in the top of the fifth.

Ridge had three of the Tigers' 15 hits, while Chasteen, Catherine Conte, Bell and Szyska each had two. Kelsey Steiner had Oberlin's only hit.

Emily Bichler immproved to 3-5 with the one-hiter, while Emily King dropped to 1-7.

DePauw again got off to a quick start in game two as Lauren Krumwiede led off with a double, moved to third on Hallett's double and scored on Chasteen's bunt.

The lead reached 3-0 in the third with Krumwiede hitting a triple and scoring on Hallett's base hit. Chasteen followed with a double before Linsey Button plated Hallett with a ground out.

Oberlin's first runs of the day came in the fifth as Cheryl Lindsly was hit by a pitch and King singled before Steiner reached on an error in left field, allowing both runners to score.

DePaw added three each in the fifth and sixth innings with Oberlin plating one in the seventh.

Krumwiede and Hallett each had three of the Tigers' 11 hits, while Chasteen added two. Krumwiede scored four in the win. Four different Yeowomen had one hit apiece.

Kahla Nolan improved to 2-3 with the win, while Katie Pieplow dropped to 0-1.

DePauw travels to Hiram tomorrow for a 1 p.m. NCAC doubleheader.
