DePauw Sweeps Franklin; Extends Win Streak to 10

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw improved to 14-12 on the season and extended its win streak to 10 with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Franklin. The Tigers won the opener, 5-1, and took the nightcap, 8-6, in a game called after 4 1/2 innings due to darkness. Franklin dropped to 12-21 with the losses.

DePauw's Haleigh Chasteen pitched a two-hitter in the opener. retiring the first 10 hitters she faced and tossing a no-hitter for four innings.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the fourth when Catherine Conte doubled with two outs and scored on Sammi Bell's double. Bell advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on Alison Towery's base hit.

Michelle Murphy led off the fifth with a double, Franklin's first hit, and scored on Kayla Craft's single through the left side.

DePauw plated three in the fifth as Jennifer Ridge led off with a bunt single and advanced to second on Amy Hallett's sacrifice bunt. Chasteen followed with a walk and Linsey Button drove in Ridge with a single. Button stole second and pinch-runner Morgan Pigusch stole second and third bases, respectively, before Button came home on Bell's single. Lauren Krumwiede came home on a wild pitch.

Bell led DePauw with three of its nine hits, while Button followed with two. Chasteen improved to 3-3, while Allie Nash dropped to 2-1.

Katie Struewing's single in the first inning of the second game scored Jessica Ayers and gave the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead. DePauw countered with one in the bottom of the first as Ridge scored on Chasteen's bunt single.

Franklin took a 4-1 lead on three straight RBI singles from Hayley South, McKensie Vanosdol and Struewing. Krumwiede's two-run single in the second cut Franklin's lead to 4-3 and the Tigers took the lead for good in the third with three runs. An error on Conte's sacrifice bunt allowed Chasteen to score and Bell's sacrifice bunt plated Button. Jamie Story drove in Conte with a double.

Hallett's two-run homer in the fourth made it 8-4 before Franklin added two in the fifth. Three straight Grizzlies drew walks to start the inning before Ayers drove in Murphy with a fielder's choice. Vanosdol's sacrifice fly scored Emily Whitsett with the game's final run.

Ridge, Chasteen and Button each had two of DePauw's 10 hits, while South and Struewing each had two of Franklin's eight hits.

Kahla Nolan improved to 4-3, while Craft dropped to 3-6.

DePauw takes its 8-0 North Coast Athletic Conference record into tomorrow's 1 p.m. home doubleheader with Wooster.
