Kosinski's Seventh-Inning Homer Gives DePauw Win and Forces 'If Necessary' Game

Jen Kosinski Meadville, Pa. - Jen Kosinski's three-run homer in the seventh lifted DePauw to a 6-4 win over Denison and kept the Tigers alive in the North Coast Athletic Conference Softball Tournament.

The Tigers improved to 29-11, while the Big Red dropped to 26-17. The two teams square off one more time today with the winner taking the tournament title and the conference's automatic qualification into the NCAA Championship.

Denison scored a pair in the first as Hannah Price led off with a single and moved to second on Julie Rooney's sacrifice bunt. Rachel Laughlin followed with a double which score Price and Jess Robertson drove in Laughlin with a single.

DePauw took a 3-2 lead in the fifth when Haley Buchanan led off with a single and advanced to second on an error. Megan Landahl entered as a pinch-runner and moved to third on Emily Dieckmann's single. Jennifer Ridge ran for Dieckmann and Jamie Story followed with a single which scored Landahl. An error on the play allowed Ridge to score and tie the game. Kosinski (pictured) drove in the third run of the inning with a single to right center.

The Big Red regained the lead in the sixth as Gretchen Staubach reached second on an error. Kait Fiore followed with an infield single which moved Staubach to third before Price singled home Staubach. Price and Fiore advanced on stolen bases and Rooney delivered a sacrifice fly which scored Fiore and gave Denison a 4-3 lead.

Rachel MacBeth reached on an error with one out in the seventh and Cymone Allen followed with a single before Kosinski hit the eventual game-winning three-run homer to right center.

DePauw totaled eight hits led by Kosinski and Buchanan with two each. Kosinski drove in four in the win. Price, Rooney ad Robertson each had two of Denison's 10 hits.

Emily Bichler improved to 9-4 with the win, while Becca Dyer dropped to 6-4. Bichler notched eight strikeouts and didn't allow a walk.
