DePauw Drops NCAC Doubleheader at Allegheny

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Meadville, Pa. - DePauw dropped to 22-10 overall and 6-6 in the North Coast Athletic Conference after losing both ends of its North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Allegheny. The hosts blanked DePauw, 8-0 in six innings, in the first game and held on for a 6-4 win in the nightcap. The Gators improved to 23-8-1 overall and 9-3 in conference play.

In the opener Allegheny took a 1-0 lead in the first when Stephanie Fort doubled home Marina Scarantino. The Gators extended the margin to 2-0 in the third when Sadie Stuart plated Fort with a base hit.

After scoring three unearned runs in the fifth, Allegheny ended the game with the eight-run rule after Fort hit a three-run homer in the sixth.

Holly Paris had two of DePauw's five hits, while Fort had two of Allegheny's seven.

Emily Dieckmann dropped to 9-5 with the loss, while Caitlin Nealer improved to 18-4.

In the second game, the Gators grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on RBI singles by Haley Hayden and Marueen Pallone. Nealer's solo homer in the second and Pallone's run-scoring ground out in the third pushed the margin to 4-0.

DePauw reached the scoreboard for the first time on the day in the fifth as Cymone Allen led off with a double and scored on Jen Kosinski's single. Kosinski later scored on a passed ball.

The Gators matched that in the bottom of the fifth on Stuart's two-run homer.

Allen led off the seventh with a double before Kosinski and Amy Hallett walked to load the bases. Paris hit into a fielder's choice which forced Allen at the plate. Haley Buchanan then doubled to right center, but Paris was thrown out at the plate.

DePauw totaled six hits led by Allen's two, while Allegheny had 11 hits and was paced by two each from Fort, Hayden and Stuart.

Nealer improved to 19-4, while Emily Bichler dropped to 5-4.

The Tigers wrap up the weekend with a doubleheader at Oberlin tomorrow.
