#6 DePauw Splits NCAC Doubleheader with Hiram

Greencastle, Ind. - Sixth-ranked DePauw blanked Hiram, 9-0 in five innings, in the Tigers' first-ever North Coast Athletic Conference softball game, but the Terriers took game two by a 12-1 score in six innings.

DePauw is now 15-3 overall and 1-1 in NCAC play, while the Terriers are 9-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

The Tigers scored six in the bottom of the second of the first game after Amy Hallett led off by reaching second on an outfield error. Hallett went to third on a wild pitch before Haley Buchanan drew a walk. Kate Hendrickson drove in Hallett with a ground out before Jamie Story plated Buchanan with a single.

Rachel MacBeth and Cymone Allen walked to load the bases before Jen Kosinski drove in two with a single. A wild pitch then allowed Allen and Kosinski to cross the plate.

The Tigers added three more in the fourth as Allen singled, stole second and third and scored when Holly Paris grounded out. Hallett and Buchanan then followed with solo homers.

Eight different DePauw players collected at least one hit led Kosinski's two. Three different Terriers had one hit each.

Emily Dieckmann improved to 7-0  with the win, while Taylor Charles dropped to 5-4.

In game two, Hiram scored four in the second as Charles led off singe and scored on Jessica Bolanz's two-run homer. Miranda Wright singled before Taylor Petersal walked. Marlene Smith's grounder advanced both runners before Kristen Cooney drove in two with a single.

The Terriers added one more in the fifth as Kelly Langland led off with a double and scored on Charles' single through the right side. Hiram expanded the lead to 6-0 in the fourth when Smith led off with a double and later scored on Sarah Loyer's base hit.

DePauw reached the board in the fourth when Kosinski led off with a walk and stole second before scoring on Holly  Paris' double.

Hiram added two more in the fifth on Petersal's two-run homer before scoring four in the sixth on a two-run single by Charles, a run-scoring double by Bolanz and Miranda Wright's RBI single.

Paris had DePauw's only hit, while Bolanz went 4-for-4 to lead Hiram's 16-hit attack. Charles added three, while Loyer and Wright had two hits each.

Amethyst Brigham improved to 3-2 with the one-hitter, while Emily Bichler dropped to 3-2.

DePauw returns to action on Wednesday, April 4, when it hosts Ohio Wesleyan in a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader.
