Sixth-ranked DePauw Remains Unbeaten with Sweep

LLS4413 2 Greencastle, Ind. - Sixth-ranked DePauw improved to 6-0 on the season after sweeping a doubleheader from Aurora by scores of 4-3 and 8-0. The Spartans dropped to 3-7 with the losses.

In the opener, DePauw took a 2-0 lead as Amy Hallett singled and Holly Paris reached on an error of her sacrifice bunt. Emily Dieckmann's sacrifice bunt advanced both runners and Lauren Krumwiede drove in both with a single.

The Spartans tied the game in the top of the third as Jackie Soch led off with a walk and Stephanie Lynch singled. Tristan Wilcox reached on an infield single, but an error on the play allowed Soch to score. Brooke Spencer later drove Lynch in on a fielder's choice.

Haley Buchanan's single in the bottom of the third scored Jen Kosinski and Kosinski's double in the fifth plated Rachel MacBeth and gave the Tigers a 4-2 lead.

Aurora's final run came in the seventh on Samantha Angell's solo homer to left.

DePauw totaled 11 hits paced by two each from MacBeth, Kosinski and Buchanan. Aurora also had 11 led by Wilcox with three. Lynch and Sarah Clauser each had two hits.

Kahla Nolan picked up the win in relief and improved to 2-0, while Natalie Zanella dropped to 2-5.

In the second game, the Tigers scored seven in the first and one in the second in taking the five-inning win.

MacBeth singled in the first and scored on Kosinski's two-run homer. Buchanan walked and Hallett singled before Paris drove in Buchanan with a single. Dieckmann reached on a fielder's choice which allowed Hallett to score before Hendrickson walked to load the bases. Jamie Story followed with a two-run double and MacBeth wrapped up the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

Hallett's solo homer in the second was the game's final run.

DePauw finished with eight hits led by two each from Cymone Allen and Hallett. Three different Aurora players had one hit each.

Dieckmann improved to 3-0 with the three-hit shutout, whle Hope Webster dropped to 1-2.

DePauw returns to action on Wednesday, March 21, when it hosts Anderson in a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader.
