Hiram's Three-run Homer in Ninth Forces 'If Necessary' Game of NCAA Regional

May 16, 2011, Adrian, Mich. — Hiram's Alexandra Singer hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Terriers a 15-12 win over 16th-ranked DePauw and force the final elimination game of the Adrian Regional in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship. That game is scheduled for 11:25 a.m. this morning.

The game was halted due to rain on Sunday with DePauw holding an 11-9 lead. Hiram led 4-2 after four innings after scoring one run in each inning, but the Tigers plated nine runs in the fifth to take an 11-4 lead. Hiram put five on board to close the margin to 11-9 before play was halted.

The game was resumed this morning and Hiram forced extra innings with Singer delivering a two-out, two-run double down the left field line.

DePauw took a 12-11 lead in the eighth as Jamie Story reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second when Cymone Allen reached on an error. Rachel MacBeth then drove in Story with a base hit up the middle. Hiram's Jessica Bolanz knotted the score at 12-12 with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the eighth.

The Terriers ended the game in the bottom of the ninth after Kristen Cooney led off with a single and moved to second on Kelly Langland's base hit. Singer then followed with the three-run shot to left center for her second homer of the game.

Each team totaled 17 hits with Jen Kosinski and Paris each finishing with four. MacBeth and Brianne Weeks followed with three each. Singer led Hiram with four, while Alyssa Lane had three followed by Cooney, Langland, Bolanz and Marlene Smith with two apiece.

Emily Bichler dropped to 28-9 with the loss, while Lane improved to 16-8. DePauw dropped to 30-9-1 with the loss and Hiram improved to 29-13.
