Box Score 2 March 25, 2011, Sewanee, Tenn. — Eighth-ranked DePauw improved to 12-2-1 overall and 5-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference following a doubleheader sweep at Sewanee. The Tigers won the first game, 10-4, and took the nightcap, 18-1. Sewanee dropped to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
In the opening game, the Tigers scored two in the first before Sewanee countered with one in the bottom of the first. DePauw extended the lead to 4-1 with one run each in the fourth and fifth innings before Sewanee scored twice in the fifth to close the gap to 4-3. The Tigers scored four in the seventh and Sewanee managed one in the bottom half of the frame.
Brianne Weeks and Alison Towery each had four of DePauw's 14 hits, while Jen Kosinski added two. Sewanee totaled eight hits led by Dana Middleton with three, while Alex Ginsburg and Flo Churchwell added two apiece.
Emily Bichler improved to 11-2 with the win, while Michelle Thibodeaux dropped to 0-3.
In the nightcap, DePauw scored seven runs in the first and third innings and added three in the fourth and one in the fifth, while Sewanee's lone score came in the first.
The Tigers totaled 20 hits led by Rachel MacBeth's three. Gwen Anderson, Lauren Krumwiede, Haley Buchanan, Amy Hallett, Kate Hendrickson and Samantha Szyska finished with two each.
Buchanan equaled DePauw single-game records with two homers and seven RBI as she hit a grand slam in the third and a three-run shot in the fourth. Her seven homers this year are the second most by a DePauw player in a season. Kosinski hit a two-run homer in the first.
Thibodeaux had two of Sewanee's four hits.
Megan Landahl improved to 1-0 in her first collegiate start as she allowed just four hits while striking out five. Thibodeaux dropped to 0-4.
The teams meet tomorrow in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
