Kukurugya Qualifies for 100 Breast Championship Finals with School Record

 — DePauw sophomore Matt Kukurugya competed in this morning's 100-yard breaststroke at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships and qualified for tonight's Championship Finals.

Kukurugya broke his own school record after finishing seventh in 56.29 seconds. He entered the Championships with the ninth fastest time which he improved upon by .22 seconds.

DePauw's 800 freestyle relay finished the prelims in 6:54.26 and its place will be determined after tonight's final heat. 

On Thursday, DePauw's 200 free relay of Jack Burgeson, Joe Hessburg, Josh Baugh and John Montgomery earned honorable mention all-America honors after finishing 14th in 1:24.09.

The Tigers' 400 medley relay of Baugh, Matt Kukurugya, Montgomery and Burgeson finished 21st in 3:29.78 on Thursday, while the 200 medley relay of Montgomery, Kukurugya, Baugh and Hessburg finished 17th in 1:34.01.

Kukurugya will also compete in the 200 breast on Saturday where he has the 14th best time and the Tigers will swim the 400 free relay where they are 23rd.

DePauw finished 13th at last year's Championships.
