March 23, 2011, Knoxville, Tenn. — DePauw's 200-yard medley relay of John Montgomery, Matt Kukurugya, Josh Baugh and Joe Hessburg missed the consolation finals by just .21 seconds in competition today at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
The four finished in 1:34.01 and in 17th place after entering with the 22nd fastest time.
Kukurugya will compete in the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday with the ninth fastest time and then on Saturday in the 200 breast where he has the 14th best time.
The Tigers are slated to compete in four more relays during the Championships. On Thursday, they'll compete in both the 200 free and 400 medley relays. They have the 16th best time in the free relay and 20th in the medley.
They'll compete in Friday's 800 free relay where they have the 17th fastest time and, on Saturday, the four will swim the 400 free relay where they are 23rd.
DePauw finished 13th at last year's Championships.
