May 13, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw pitcher Megan Soultz allowed just two Denison players to reach base and pitched a two-hit shutout as the Tigers topped the Big Red, 5-0, in game 4 of the Greencastle, Indiana Regional in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first as Emma Minx hit a two-run homer to left. They added three more in the fifth with Jen Kosinski leading off with a double and scoring on Minx's single through the left side. Holly Paris' sacrifice bunt moved Minx to second and Amy Hallett followed with a run-scoring double to the fence in left center.
After Ashlee Anton reached by being hit by a pitch, Cymone Allen delivered an infield single, but an error on the play allowed Hallett to score and give the Tigers a 5-0 lead.
Denison's Alex Murray broke up Soultz's perfect game with a bloop single to left with one out in the fifth and the next batter, Hannah Price, collected an infield single for the Big Red's only two base runners.
Minx had three of DePauw's 11 hits, while Hallett and Allen added two apiece. Minx drove in three in the win.
Soultz improved to 25-4 with the win, while Samantha Rumschlag dropped to 7-6.
Soultz became the all-time leader in Division III history with 141 games started in the circle and moved into fourth place with her 109th win. Her 144 games pitched is tied for fourth, while her 110 complete games are the fourth-highest total Soultz's 853.0 innings also rank fourth in Division III history as do her 48 shutouts.
