Box Score 2 March 13, 2010, Danville, Ky. — The 24th-ranked Tigers improved to 5-1 on the season after winning both games today in the March Mayhem Tournament hosted by Centre College.
The Tigers topped Manchester, 11-5, in the first game and beat Maryville (Tenn.) 15-1 in the second.
In the Manchester win, DePauw took a 2-0 lead in the first as Rachel MacBeth and Jen Kosinski each singled with two outs before Holly Paris drove in both with a double. Manchester cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first on back-to-back doubles by Brittney Miller and Amy Hommema.
Kosinski's two-run homer in the third followed by Paris' double and Amy Hallett's run-scoring single gave DePauw a 5-1 advantage. The Spartans scored an unearned run in the third before Paris drove in Cymone Allen with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Samantha Reynolds cut the DePauw lead to 6-5 with a three-run double in the bottom of the fourth.
After Hallett's solo homer in the fifth, the Tigers added two unearned runs in the sixth before scoring two in the seventh.
MacBeth and Kosinski each totaled three of DePauw's 19 hits, while Allen, Paris, Hallett, Ashlee Anton and Emma Minx added two apiece. Hommema led Manchester with three of their seven hits.
Megan Soultz improved to 4-1 with the win after striking out five. Eric Bush suffered the loss.
Against Maryville, the Scots took a 1-0 lead when Lindsy Little's double scored Haley Johnson. DePauw scored nine in the third with Minx capping the scoring with a grand slam. Haley Buchanan's fourth-inning grand slam ended the Tigers' scoring.
DePauw totaled 14 hits led by two apiece from Allen, Kosinski, Paris and Minx. Soultz improved to 5-1 after striking out five and not allowing a walk, while Sarah Reeder suffered the loss.
The Tigers face Oberlin on Sunday at Noon.
