December 18, 2010, Terre Haute, Ind. — Host Rose-Hulman shot 66.7 percent in each half and outscored DePauw 44-24, in the paint, on the way to a 75-66 win over the Tigers. DePauw dropped to 6-3 with the loss, while the Engineers improved to 9-2.
The Tigers held a 9-7 lead after Tommy Weakley's three with 15:16 left, but Rose-Hulman's Jon Gerken answered with a three which started a 12-0 run and gave the hosts a 19-9 lead. The Engineers took a 38-26 lead into the break.
DePauw closed the gap to nine at 44-35 as Ryan Russell's layup capped a 5-0 run, but the Engineers scored the next 14 to push the lead to 58-35 with 12:31 remaining.
The margin reached as many as 25 and was still 17 at 73-56 before DePauw outscored Rose-Hulman 10-1 to close the gap to 74-66 with 44 seconds left. The Engineers missed a pair of free throws, but the Tigers couldn't convert a couple of three-point attempts.
Weakley established a career high with 18 points on 6-of-9 three-point shooting, while Joe Bergfeld added 12 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Ross Simpson dished out a career-high six assists and Bergfeld had a career-best three steals.
Nate Gissentanner led Rose-Hulman with 19 on 9-of-11 shooting from the field, while Julian Strickland added 13 points. Blake Knotts followed with 11 and Gerken added 10. Gerken and Strickland each grabbed six rebounds as the Engineers held a 28-25 edge on the glass. Gerken also dished out seven assists.
DePauw hit 47.2 percent from the field including 55.2 percent in the second half, but the Engineers shot 66.7 for the game.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, December 29, when they take on Elmhurst in the Elmhurst College Bluejay Classic at 8 p.m. CST.
