Late Goal Lifts DePauw to Win at Roanoke

riffle_sarah_2008fh.jpg September 6, 2009, Salem, Va. —  Sarah Riffle's goal with just 1:44 remaining broke a 3-3 tie and gave DePauw a 4-3 win at Roankoke. The Tigers improved to 2-1 with the win, while the Maroons dropped to 0-2.

Roanoke took a 2-0 lead as Helen Pearsall scored on Hannah Gerry's assist at 10:40 before Abby Bjork added a second score at 26:26.

Riffle (pictured) scored her first goal at 29:44 before Bridgette Shamleffer knotted the score with a penalty stroke at 36:41. Kimberly Trainor gave the Tigers the lead at 48:56 before Roanoke's Jessica Perkins knotted the score at 51:52. DePauw outshot Roanoke, 28-15 in the win.

Liz Attewell recorded seven saves in goal for DePauw and Roanoke's Cristina Schicilone had 19 saves.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, September 11, when they open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play against Centre. Start time at McKeen Field is set for 5 p.m.
