May 2, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — In a battle of top-25 teams, 17th-ranked DePauw swept a doubleheader from 21st-ranked Washington University, 4-0 and 1-0. The Tigers finish the regular season at 28-7, while the Bears dropped to 24-11.

In the opening game, Washington starter Claire Voris retired the first 10 DePauw batters she faced before Emma Minx doubled in the fourth and moved to third on Rachel Gill's single. Gill then stole second and a wild pitch allowed Minx to score the game's first run.

Jen Kosinski reached after being hit by a pitch before Gill was called out at the plate on an attempted squeeze play. Ashlee Anton then delivered a single which plated Kosinski.

Minx led off the sixth with a walk and moved to second on Gill's sacrifice bunt. Kosinski's double scored Minx and Anton's single brought home Kosinski.

The Bears' best scoring chance came in the fourth when they loaded the bases with two outs, but Megan Soultz struck out Caitlyn Hoffman to end the inning.

DePauw totaled seven hits led by Anton's two, while Washington had five paced by two each from Alyssa Abramoski and Lindsay Cavarra. Soultz improved to 24-7 after allowing just five hits and striking out four while Voris dropped to 16-5 and struck out three.

In the nightcap, Kosinski singled with two outs in the fourth and moved to third on Anton's single through the right side. Kelly Schwerzler then drove in Kosinski with the game's lone run.

The Bears had runners on first and third with one out in the first but couldn't score. In the third the first two batters reached on singles, but Soultz struck out the next two and ended the inning by catching Carter Malouf's popup.

Anton had two of DePauw's five hits, while Megan Fieser had two of the Bears' six. Soultz improved to 25-7, while Olivia Cook dropped to 7-5.

The shutouts pushed Soultz's season total to 11 and her career number to 34. She also extended her streak of innings without allowing an earned run to 45 2/3. She also extended her streak of complete-game shutouts to four.

DePauw hosts the NCAA Division III Softball Championship first round beginning Thursday, May 7. Pairings will be announced on NCAA.com on Monday morning at 11 a.m.
