Box Score 3 April 18, 2009, Danville, Ky. — DePauw and Centre were originally scheduled to play a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader, but due to Sunday weather concerns the two teams played three with the 15th-ranked Tigers winning all three.
The Tigers improved to 23-7 overall and 14-0 in SCAC play and extended their conference regular season win streak to 32 straight. Centre dropped to 8-25 overall and 4-11 in SCAC play.
DePauw won the first game, 4-0, and the second by an 11-0 count before wrapping up the day with a 22-3 victory.
In the opening game, the Tigers scored two each in the first and sixth innings and Megan Soultz pitched a five-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and no walks. The Tigers totaled five hits led by Jen Kosinski with two. While Soultz picked up her 19th win, Charlotte Jones suffered the loss.
Soultz and Barrow combined to toss a one-hitter in the second game as Soultz retired the all nine batters she faced. The Tigers scored all 11 of their runs in the third inning as they sent 16 batters to the plate. Lauren Rees drove in four of those 11 with a single and double in the inning.
DePauw totaled 11 hits led by Rees and Carolyn Bartlett with two each. In addition to Rees' four RBI, Kosinski drove in three. Soultz improved to 20-7 with the win, while Jess Jowers took the loss.
Barrow struck out 12 in the five-inning win in the third and final game of the day and improved to 3-0. She retired the first 10 batters she faced including eight via strikeouts. Catelyn Teague suffered the loss for Centre.
The Tigers scored five in the first, six in the third, five in the fourth and six in the fifth. DePauw totaled 21 hits led by Rees' three and two each from Alexis Travers, Brianne Weeks, Rachel Gill, Holly Paris, Kelly Schwerzler, Bartlett and Cymone Allen. With her second inning double, Gill became the first player in SCAC history to record 200 career hits.
Paris drove in four including three on a fifth-inning homer. Weeks, Gill and Schwerzler each finished with two RBI, while Weeks, Rees and Gill each scored three. In all, 12 different DePauw players collected hits. Four different Centre players had one hit each as the Colonels scored all three runs in the fourth.
DePauw begns defense of its 2008 SCAC title when it opens tournament play at 6 p.m. CDT on Friday against the winner of Friday afternoon's Millsaps-Trinity game. Complete information is available from the official site.
