16th-ranked DePauw Scores Two in Bottom of Seventh of Nightcap for SCAC Sweep

April 11, 2009, Greencastle, Ind.Jen Kosinski's single in the bottom of the seventh of the second game against Rhodes scored Chelsy Patterson and Brianne Weeks and gave the 16th-ranked Tigers a 5-4 win over the Lynx and a doubleheader sweep. DePauw won the first game by a 4-3 score.

DePauw improved to 20-7 overall and 11-0 in the SCAC and clinched the SCAC East Division's top seed, while Rhodes dropped to 26-10 overall and 11-5 in the conference.

In the nightcap, the Tigers trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, but Patterson led off with a walk and moved to third on a throwing error on Brianne Weeks' sacrifice bunt. Rachel Gill was walked intentionally and Kosinski delivered the single which lifted DePauw to its 29th straight SCAC regular season victory.

DePauw took a 1-0 lead in the first as Weeks tripled and scored on Gill's single. Rhodes gained the lead in the fourth as Sara Bowen doubled home two and scored when Elise Suna reached on a DePauw error.

The Tigers closed the gap to 3-2 in the fifth when Patterson drew a two-out walk and later scored on Lauren Rees' single.

DePauw totaled nine hits in the win with Weeks leading the way with three. Four different Rhodes players collected one hit each. Megan Soultz improved to 18-7 with the win after striking out five and walking just one, while Bowen dropped to 11-3.

In the first game, the Tigers scored three in the first, two in the second and two more in the fourth for the win. DePauw totaled 14 hits in the win led by Weeks with three and two each from Patterson, Gill and Kosinski. Gill's first-inning double was the 39th of her DePauw career breaking the record she had shared with Ashley Sewell (2003-06).

Bowen and Kelli Zomer each had singles for the Lynx as Soultz and Kristin Barrow combined for the two-hit shutout. Soultz improved to 17-7 and struck out six. Barrow recorded five strikeouts in her two innings of relief. Chelsea Peters suffered the loss and dropped to 6-2.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, April 18, when it travel to Centre for an SCAC doubleheader.
