Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

sb040108.jpg March 21, 2009, Jackson, Miss. —  DePauw improved to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference following an SCAC doubleheader sweep at Millsaps. The 16th-ranked Tigers won the first game by an 8-0 score and the nightcap, 5-0.

With the sweep DePauw also extended its SCAC regular season win streak to 20. The Majors dropped to 7-10 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

In the first game the Tigers scored twic in the first on Jennifer Kosinski's two-run double and then plated four more in the fourth. Chelsy Patterson reached on a Millsaps error with the bases loaded which allowed Kelly Schwerzler to score. Brianne Weeks followed it with a run-scoring single before Emma Minx doubled to drive in a pair and make it 6-0.

Schwerzler's fifth-inning single scored Cymone Allen and Rachel MacBeth's seventh-inning base hit scored Kosinski.

The Tigers finished with 14 hits as Ashlee Anton led the way with three and Weeks, Kosinski, Schwerzler and MacBeth followed with two each. Minx and Kosinski each drove in a pair. Tiffany Ladnier led Millsaps with two of their four hits.

Megan Soultz improved to 7-2 after allowing just three hits in five innings, while Kristin Barrow pitched two innings of scoreless relief. No Majors runner advanced beyond second base. Kasey Thibodeaux dropped to 3-5 with the loss.

In the nightcap, the Tigers scored two each in the first two innings and added another run in the fifth. Rachel Gill drove in DePauw's first run as her bases loaded single scored Patterson. Kosinski followed with a fielder's choice RBI which scored Weeks. Minx and Gill drove in second-inning runs with singles, while Schwerzler did the same in the fifth.

DePauw totaled 12 hits in the win as Weeks, Minx and Gill each had two and Gill drove in a pair. The Majors finished with four hits as Ladnier again had two.

Soultz (8-2) pitched six innings of scoreless relief and allowed just four singles with five strikeouts and no walks. With her fifth-inning strikeout of Karoline Kremers, Soultz became the SCAC's career strikeout leader breaking Erin Mulvey's (Trinity, 2005-07) record of 463. Barrow pitched a scoreless seventh and, again, the Tigers' pitchers didn't allow a runner past second. Millsaps' Brittney McAllister dropped to 3-4.

The teams wrap up their four-game series with an 11 a.m. CDT doubleheader tomorrow. Live stats will again be provided by Millsaps.
