February 27, 2009, Conway, Ark. — DePauw nearly erased Southwestern's 14-point lead in the final five minutes, but it was the Pirates which advanced to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference semifinals after a 69-62 win over the Tigers. DePauw drops to 19-7 on the season, while Southwestern improved to 17-9.
Southwestern led most of the first half and built as much as a 13-point advantage at 32-19 and 35-22 before the Tigers closed the halftime gap to 39-31.
Joe Bergfeld hit a jumper and Steve Lemasters a three to quickly closed the Pirates' lead to 39-36 in the opening minute of the second half.
Southwestern eventually pushed the lead back to 14 at 64-50 after Anthony Cox hit two free throws with 5:02 left. Mike Moore (pictured) hit a pair of threes, a layup and four free throws over a 2:32 stretch to personally account for every point in a 12-0 run which closed the Southwestern lead to 64-62 with 2:30 remaining.
The Pirates' Zach Bergrstrom knocked down a three with 46 seconds left and Cox nailed a couple of free throws with 21 seconds left to seal the win.
Moore led all scorers with 26, while Bergfeld added 11. Bergfeld and Callen shared the team rebounding lead with seven apiece. David Gray blocked three shots in the loss.
Jonathan Brown led Southwestern with 16 points, while Travis Barber followed with 13 and a game-high 11 rebounds. Nick Caputo followed with 12 and Bergstrom added 10.
