Box Score May 12, 2008, Rock Island, Ill. - Wisconsin-Whitewater scored four in the top of the eighth and knocked the top-ranked Tigers out of the NCAA Division III tournament with a 6-2 win.
DePauw finished the season at 40-4, while the Warhawks improved to 35-9 and advanced to the NCAA finals.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Brianne Weeks led off with a double, moved to second on Kaitlyn Davitt's sacrifice bunt and scored on Rachel Gill's single. Liz Yucuis knotted the contest in the fifth with a solo homer to left center.
DePauw regained the lead in the sixth after Davitt singled through the left side and Elyse Petruzzi pinch-ran for her. Gill's sacrifice bunt moved her to second and Ashlee Anton's grounder advanced her to third. Carolyn Bartlett followed with a double to right center.
Lauren Cruz evened the score in the top of the seventh by leading off with a solo homer to right center. In the bottom of the seventh, Emma Minx drilled a double down the left field line with one out and moved to third on Chelsy Patterson's ground out, but was left stranded.
Amy Gahl and Ashley Smith led off the eighth with doubles to make it 3-2 before Suzanne Gersich singled. Amanda LeBeau followed with a three-run homer to left center.
DePauw totaled eight hits with Davitt and Bartlett each collecting a pair, while Gersich and Yucuis each had two of the Warhawks' nine hits.
Megan Soultz suffered the loss and finished the season at 36-4 after striking out eigh and walking just one. Jessica Stang improved to 12-4 and struck out five in the win.
Soultz and Bartlett earned spots on the 15-player all-tournament team.
