Box Score April 27, 2008, Danville, Ky. - The top-ranked Tigers earned the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Championship after defeating Millsaps College, 1-0, in today's SCAC championship game.
DePauw improved to 36-1 with its 36th straight win, while Millsaps ended its season at 20-14. The Tigers will be making their second straight trip to the national tournament after finishing fifth last year in their initial appearance.
Ashlee Anton provided the game's lone run when she slammed a one-out, solo homer to left in the second innning. The Tigers loaded the bases in the fourth, but couldn't push home the second run.
DePauw starter Megan Soultz allowed just two singles in recording her 13th shutout of the season. Just two Majors' runners reached second base, but they had runners on first and second with two outs in the sixth before Soultz struck out Karoline Kremers to end the threat.
Soultz improved to 32-1 with her 32nd straight win and recorded her 51st career win to tie the DePauw record held by Darcy Vannatta (1999-02). Kasey Thibodeaux dropped to 8-7 with the loss.
Anton and Minx each collected two of DePauw's five hits, while Tiffany Ladnier and Jennifer McKinley each had one for the Majors.
DePauw closes out the regular season on Saturday, May 3, when it travels to 14th-ranked Washington-St. Louis for a noon doubleheader.
