Third-ranked DePauw Wraps up SCAC Play Unbeaten

April 13, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - The third-ranked Tigers earned the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Eastern Division's top seed after sweeping a doubleheader over Millsaps by scores of 9-1 and 12-0.

DePauw improved to 33-1 overall and finished SCAC play at 8-0 while extending its win streak to 33 straight. Millsaps dropped to 16-11 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Millsaps took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener on Jennifer McKinley's solo homer to center before the Tigers knotted the score in the bottom half of the inning on on Rachel Gill's squeeze bunt which scored Chelsy Patterson.

In the second inning, Patterson's ground out and Brianne Weeks' RBI single gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead. Patterson added a run-scoring double in the fourth and Kaitlyn Davitt added a two-run homer to left.

The Tigers ended the game in the fifth as Carolyn Bartlett doubled and moved to third on Kelly Schwerzler's single. Schwerzler stole second and Lauren Rees drove in both with a double. Emma Minx then capped the scoring with a double to right center.

Megan Soultz improved to 28-1 after allowing just three hits with eight strikeouts and no walks, while Brittney McAllister dropped to 3-5.

Weeks, Schwerzler, Rees and Minx each had two of DePauw's 12 hits, while three different Majors finished with one hit apiece.

In the nightcap, DePauw scored three in the second as Barlett drove in the first with a double and scored from third on a double steal. Rees' single through the left side scored Schwerzler.

The Tigers added eight runs in the third as the Majors committed four errors in the frame. DePauw closed the scoring with one in the fourth on Kirsten Gersch's run-scoring single.

Soultz and Kristin Barrow combined for the shutout as they limited the Majors to just a leadoff single in the first. Soultz improved to 29-1, while Kasey Thibodeaux dropped to 7-4.

The Tigers totaled eight hits with Schwerzler leading with two. Tiffany Ladnier had Millsaps' lone hit.

DePauw's next scheduled action is set for Friday, April 25, when it competes in the SCAC Championship in Danville, Ky. The Tigers, who have won 31 of their last 32 conference regular season games, open tournament play at 4 p.m. against either Austin or Centre.
