Tigers Drop Double-Overtime Game at Oglethorpe; Seeded Third in SCAC Tourney

February 24, 2008, Atlanta, Ga. - Host Oglethorpe hit all six of its free throws in the final 33.8 seconds of the second overtime and defeated DePauw, 86-80, in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest.

DePauw dropped to 19-6 overall and 10-4 in the SCAC and enters the SCAC tournament as the third seed in the Eastern Division. The Stormy Petrels improved to 16-9 overall and 10-4 in the SCAC and are seeded second in the East.

The Tigers trailed 82-80 before Mike Moore's three-point attempt with just under 10 seconds left was off the mark. Following an intentional foul call with four seconds left, the Stormy Petrels hit four straight free throws to put the game away.

DePauw's Stephen Schott completed a three-point play with 30.1 seconds left in regulation to knot the score at 61-61. Oglethorpe's Craig Jackson missed a three with six seconds remaining and Oglethorpe couldn't control the rebound. Following a timeout with 2.4 seconds left, the Tigers got the ball in the hands of Mike Moore but his three-point attempt at the buzzer didn't go down.

Ahmad Kareem Shaheed gave the hosts a three-point lead in the first overtime with a pair of free throws with 51.4 seconds left, but Moore's drive cut the margin to 71-70.

Craig Jackson's tip-in gave Oglethorpe a 73-70 advantage before DePauw's Steve Lemasters buried a three with three seconds left. Oglethorpe advanced the ball to midcourt where Tony James was whistled for a foul with 0.3 seconds left. Joe Kennedy, however, missed both free throws and the teams went to a second overtime.

In the second extra session, the Stormy Petrels took a five-point lead before Lemasters scored on a layup and Brian Oilar nailed a three from the top of the key with 49.9 seconds left. Kareem Shaheed then hit his two free throws giving Oglethorpe the lead for good,

Moore led the Tigers with 26, while Schott had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Lemasters added 10 points. Oilar grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and Moore dished out five assists.

Kareem Shaheed led Oglethorpe with 29 points and nine rebounds, while Jackson added 14. Kennedy and Todd Ward each added 11 and Chaz Smith followed with 10. Kennedy and Kareem Shaheed each grabbed nine rebounds as Oglethorpe held a 43-38 edge on the boards. Kennedy added six assists.

DePauw faces Trinity in the opening round of the SCAC tournament on Friday at 3 p.m.CST at Hendrix College.
