Box Score 2 February 23, 2008, Atlanta, Ga. - The eighth-ranked Tigers opened the season with a doubleheader split at 13th-ranked Emory. The host Eagles won the first game by a 4-2 score, while DePauw came back in the nightcap to take a 2-1 win in eight innings.
The teams were scoreless through seven innings of the nightcap and the Tigers were hitless before the eighth. DePauw started the eighth with Lauren Rees placed on second per tiebreaker procedures. Elyse Petruzzi then sacrificed her to third before Rachel Gill delivered a run-scoring single. One out later Kaitlyn Davitt singled, scoring Gill from second.
The Eagles plated one in the bottom of the eighth as Caitlin Fitzgerald scored on Shanon Andersen's single.
DePauw's Megan Soultz picked up the win by allowing five hits in eight innings, while Andersen suffered the loss.
In the opener, Emory scored once in the first and three in the third to take a 4-0 lead. Carolyn Bartlett's single scored Rees in the fifth and Davitt's seventh-inning base hit brought home Chelsy Patterson. The Tigers left the bases loaded in the seventh and left 11 stranded for the game.
Kim Bandy had three of Emory's 10 hits and drove in three, while Cassandra Walsh and Alyson Moler each had two hits. Patterson, Rees, Gill and Davitt each had two of DePauw's nine hits. Soultz suffered the loss and Andersen claimed the win.
DePauw travels to Piedmont on Sunday for a Noon single game.
