January 27, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw trailed by as many as nine in the first half before gaining the lead late in the half and extended the margin to as many as 16 on the way to a 90-83 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over 18th-ranked Millsaps.
DePauw improved to 14-4 overall and 6-2 in the SCAC, while the Majors dropped to 15-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
The Majors jumped out to an 8-2 lead after hitting their first four shots in the opening 1:20 and led by as many as nine on a couple of occasions with the last coming at 24-15 after Lorenzo Bailey hit two free throws with 10:23 remaining.
Ryan Werntz knocked down a three before Stephen Schott added a pair of layups. Tom Callen's bucket tied the game while Schott's free throw with 6:43 left capped a 10-0 run and gave DePauw a 25-24 edge. The Tigers led at the break, 33-32.
Millsaps briefly took the lead at the start of the second half, but DePauw later scored 12 straight to take a 48-36 lead with 16:11 left. The Majors closed the gap back to 58-50, but threes by Steve Lemasters and Mike Moore sandwiched a David Gray tip-in and gave DePauw a 66-50 advantage with 9:08 remaining.
DePauw closed the game by connecting on 12 of 15 free throws over the final three minutes and secured the win.
Moore paced DePauw with 24 points and five assists, while Lemasters notched 16 off the bench. Tony James followed with 13 and Schott scored 12. Brian Oilar matched a career high with 14 rebounds including 11 in the first half.
Bailey paced Millsaps with 25 points, while Edrick Mongomery added 22 and grabbed nine rebounds along with four blocked shots. Rodney Rogan followed with 16 points and a team-high four assists.
The Tigers shot just over 50 percent for the game including 56.7 percent in the second half, while Millsaps connected on 42.5 percent for the contest.
DePauw travels to Southwestern on Friday, February 1, for an 8 p.m. CST contest.
