Tigers rally twice to advance to Sunday's regional title game

Box Score

May 12, 2007, New Concord, Ohio - Jessica Krueger's 10th-inning single scored Kristy Mahon from third and lifted DePauw to a 4-3 win over Bridgewater and into Sunday's 2 p.m. NCAA Division III regional championship game.

The Tigers face the winner of Sunday's game between Bridgewater and Anderson. That game takes place at noon tomorrow. DePauw improved to 35-5 on the season, while the Eagles dropped to 39-7.

The top two scoring teams in the country battled through six scoreless innings before Bridgewater pinch-hitter Whitney Knighton ripped a two-out triple in the top of the seventh and Jennifer Hall followed with a homer to left.

In the bottom of the seventh, Krueger led off with a triple and Annie Morgan came in to run for her. Rachel Gill drew a walk before Kaitlyn Davitt singled left scoring Morgan. After Carolyn Bartlett reached on a fielder's choice, Lauren Rees nailed a sacrifice fly to center which tied the score.

The Eagles put two on in the eighth with no outs before Mahon stabbed Caity Butler's line drive, stepped on second and nearly pulled off a triple play with a throw to first. Stephanie Steppe flied out to left to end the threat.

Kaitylyn Bowman drew a one out walk in the top of the tenth and moved to third on Laura Barry's double to left. Butler then followed with a single to center which gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead.

Jessica Bowlds led off the bottom of the tenth by reaching on a Bridgewater error. Laura Schlensker then reached on a fielder's choice and Chelsy Patterson flied out to right for the second out.

Faced with a 2-2 count Mahon ripped a single to right and, after the ball got past the Eagles' right fielder, Schlensker scored the tying run and Mahon moved to third. Krueger then nailed the next pitch into right center and ended the game. Krueger and Gill each had two of DePauw's seven hits, while Kate Reitz and Barry each had two of the Eagles' nine.
