Box Score 2 April 3, 2007, Bloomington, Ill. - DePauw dropped the opening game of its doubleheader at Illinois Wesleyan by a 2-1 score in eight innings, but rallied for a 10-4 win in the nightcap. The Tigers are 20-2 on the season, while the Titans are now 11-5.
The Tigers and Titans battled through a scoreless tie through seven innings and DePauw was held hitless until there were two outs in the seventh. With the tiebreaker rule in place for the top of the eighth, Annie Morgan entered the game as a pinch-runner and was placed on second base. She advanced to third on Carolyn Bartlett's sacrifice bunt and scored on Jessica Bowlds' sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the eighth, Kayla Kindred was placed on second and advanced to third on Monica Urban's sacrifice bunt. Molly Coers walked and stole second and Laura Johnson delivered the game-winning two-run single.
Lauren Hyland improved to 7-2 with the one-hitter as she struck out six and walked one. Megan Soultz dropped to 8-2 after allowing six hits while recording seven strikeouts and one walk. Rachel Gill had DePauw's lone hit, while Johnson had two of the Titans' six.
In the second game, DePauw scored two in the second on Bartlett's two-run homer and then took a 6-0 lead in the third on Jessica Krueger's RBI single, Lauren Rees' two-run double and Bartlett's sacrifice fly. The Tigers added two more in the frame on a pair of Titans' errors.
Illinois Wesleyan scored two in the bottom of the third on Ashley Deck's two-run single before the Tigers extended their lead to 9-2 on Gill's run-scoring single in the fourth. The Titans scored one each in the fifth and seventh and the Tigers scored one in the seventh.
Lauren Curosh improved to 8-0 after allowing seven hits, while Valerie Hackett dropped to 3-2. DePauw totaled 10 hits with Krueger, Rees, Bartlett and Laura Schlensker each finishing with two. Seven different Titans had one hit each.
DePauw opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday when it hosts Centre in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
