February 24, 2007, Memphis, Tenn. - The 22nd-ranked and top-seeded Tigers trimmed a 14-point deficit to three in the final minute, but fourth-seeded Trinity held on for a 77-72 win in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference semifinals.
DePauw dropped to 22-5 with the loss and awaits word of an at-large berth into the NCAA Division III Championship. Trinity improved to 16-11 and advances to Sunday's title game against Centre.
Trinity built as much as an 11-point lead in the first half before DePauw closed the gap to 36-30 at halftime. The Tigers scored the first four points of the second half to pull to within two, but Trinity scored five straight to take a 41-34 lead. That margin reached as many as 14 at 63-49 with 5:22.
DePauw scored 15 points in the final minute of the contest to close the Trinity lead to three, but Trinity nailed 10 of 12 free throws in the last minute to hold on for the victory.
Austin Brown led the Tigers with 18 points, while Mike Moore and Ryan Werntz each added 11. Matt McDonald grabbed nine rebounds as DePauw held a 34-26 edge on the boards. Moore notched a double-double by adding an SCAC tournament record 10 assists.
Charles Houston paced Trinity with 14 points followed by Brandon York with 12 and B.J. Moon and Mike Gilb with 11 apiece. Gilb added a team-high six rebounds.
DePauw shot 53.7 percent from the floor, but committed 19 turnovers, while Trinity hit 45.1 percent and turned it over just seven times.
