February 11, 2007, Sherman, Texas - DePauw improved to 19-4 overall and 10-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference following a 63-58 win at Austin. The Kangaroos dropped to 5-17 overall and 0-12 in the conference.
DePauw closed the first half with a 12-0 run over the final six minutes to take a 38-18 halftime advantage. The Tigers extended the lead to 23 in the opening minute of the second half, but the Kangaroos put together a 21-4 run to close the gap to 45-39 with 13:12 left.
The Tigers still held a 54-47 lead with just over seven minutes left, but Austin hit a pair of threes, a layup and a free throw to take a 56-54 lead with 4:38 remaining. DePauw's Reid Sakel's jumper tied the game before Matt McDonald added a free throw and basket to push the Tigers to a 59-56 advantage. Mike Moore nailed two free throws with 49 seconds left to extend the lead to five.
Jason Burton's bucket with 30 seconds left closed the gap to three and Sakel was whistled for an offensive foul with 26 seconds remaining. Kyle May's potential game-tying three was off the mark with six seconds left and Austin Brown hit two free throws with a pair of seconds left to seal the win.
Sakel paced the Tigers with 22 and nailed 6-of-11 three-pointers, whle Brown added 11. Moore dished out five assists and Stephen Schott grabbed seven rebounds. Burton led Austin with 16 followed by May with 14 and Chris Sturtevant with 11 and a game-high nine rebounds. May added six assists in the loss.
The Tigers host Sewanee on Friday at 8 p.m.
