Lemasters' Putback Give Tigers Shootout Win; Tigers Face Mount St. Joseph on Sunday

December 29, 2007, Tampa, Fla. - Steve Lemasters rebounded Mike Moore's miss and knocked in the game-winning bucket with 0.4 seconds remaining to give DePauw a 74-73 win over Case Western Reserve in the opening game of the fourth annual Tampa Bay Shootout.

DePauw faces Mount St. Joseph in Sunday's title game after the Lions defeated Colby-Sawyer by a 68-59 score in tonight's second game.

The Tigers never trailed in the first half as they built as much as a 13-point lead at 23-10, but the Spartans closed the gap to 46-39 at halftime.

That lead again reached double digits at 51-41 in the opening minute of the second half, but Case Western scored nine straight at the start of a 16-2 run which ended with the Spartans holding a 57-53 advantage.

Case Western expanded the lead to as many as 10 at 65-55 on a pair of free throws by Rob Skuski with 8:07 left. The Spartans still led 73-65 on a pair of free throws by Kevin Herring with 3:04 remaining.

However, DePauw scored the final eight points. Brian Oilar knocked down a three-pointer with 2:59 left before Moore's layup with 1:57 left made it 73-70. Moore knocked down a pair of free throws with 11.2 seconds remaining to close the Spartans' lead to 73-72.

Case Western's Colin Mullholland stepped to the line with 9.1 seconds left and missed both free throws. The Tigers rebounded the second miss and got the ball into Moore's hands, but the junior's jumper was off the mark and Lemasters was there for the rebound bucket with 0.4 seconds left. Oilar stole the ensuing inbounds pass securing the win.

Moore led the Tigers with 23 points and hit 11 of 12 from the line, while Oilar notched career highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds. Lemasters finished with 13 with Moore and Ryan Werntz each adding four assists.

Henning led all scorers with a tournament record 35 points, while Steve Young and Mason Conrad each added 12 and Brandon Bradford scored 10. Conrad and Skuski each grabbed seve rebounds, but DePauw held a 40-32 edge on the boards.

DePauw shot 41.3 percent for the game including just 34.5 percent in the second half, while the Spartans connected on 46.4 percent from the floor.

In the nightcap, Mount St. Joseph and Colby-Sawyer battled through a first half that included two ties and nine lead changes with Mount St. Joseph taking a 30-29 halftime lead.

The Lions extended the lead to seven early in the second half before the Chargers closed to within one on three occasions. Mount St. Joseph then pulled away with a late 11-2 run to push the lead to double figures. The Chargers got no closer than four the rest of the way.

Michael Romes led Mount St. Joseph with 21 points and seven rebounds followed by Shawn Finamore with 13 and Mitchell Goldschmidt with 12. David Ross paced Colby-Sawyer with 18 and Jon Chaloux added 11. Ryan Murray grabbed a game-high eight rebounds for the Chargers.

Colby-Sawyer shot just 30.3 percent for the game and only 26.7 percent in the second half. Mount St. Joseph shot 41.8 percent for the contest, but hit 55 percent in the second half.
