September 2, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw and visiting Case Western Reserve battled through 73 minutes of scoreless soccer, before the Spartans scored the game's lone goal at 73:25 in a 1-0 victory over the host Tigers.
R.J. French's shot banged in off the left post, giving Case Western Reserve the win in the season opener for both schools. Nate Hoffman was credited with the assist.
Each team totaled seven shots and DePauw held an 8-0 edge in corners including a pair in the final minute.
John Fenley recorded two saves in goal for the Tigers, while Chad Skidmore and Konrad Karasek shared the shutout for the Spartans. Karasek played the final 88 minutes and recorded five saves.
DePauw hosts Alma at 1 p.m. on Sunday, while Case Western is at Wabash at 1 p.m.
