September 16, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw's defense limited visiting Hope to just 15 rushing yards on 21 attempts on the way to a 23-14 win over the Flying Dutchmen. The Tigers improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2002, while Hope dropped to 0-2 with the loss.

Tyler Mallory gave DePauw a 6-0 lead with second-quarter field goals of 33 and 29 yards before Hope's David Booko provided the Flying Dutchmen their only lead of the game on a 7-yard run with 2:27 left in the first half. DePauw responded with an 8-play, 37-yard drive that culminated in Mallory's 36-yard field goal with 47 seconds remaining in the half making it 9-7.

DePauw's Luis Davila recovered a Hope fumble on the first play of the second half and. four plays later, DePauw quarterback Spud Dick covered 14 yards for a score on fourth-and-one. Mallory's extra point lifted the Tigers to a 16-7 lead with 12:29 left in the third.

Hope had several chances in the second half, but committed all four of its turnovers in the final 30 minutes. Late in the third the Flying Dutchmen drove into DePauw territory before the Tigers' Rob Farrow intercepted Jake Manning's pass near midfield. Early in the fourth Manning was picked off by Colin Batko on the first play of a drive that started on the Hope 48.

On the next series, Manning completed five straight passes to the DePauw 20, but three incomplete passes followed and a bad snap on a field goal attempt gave the ball back to DePauw. Hope cut the margin to 16-14 on its next possession as Manning completed all five passes with the final covering seven yards to Doug VanEerden with 4:36 left in the game.

With just over three minutes remaining, Hope forced DePauw to punt for the seventh straight possession and took over on its own 24. After three incomplete passes, Manning was sacked on fourth down at Hope's 20 by DePauw's Dustin Hertel.

DePauw closed out the game as Jeremiah Marks carried three times and scored on a 5-yard run with just 1:37 left to make it 23-14.

DePauw outgained Hope 269-256 in total offense and held a 52-21 edge on the ground. The Tigers held Hope to just 99 first-half total yards, while the Flying Dutchmen allowed DePauw only 93 in the second half. Marks led the Tigers with 82 carries, while Booko finished with 51 for the Flying Dutchmen. 

Dick completed 11 of 24 passes for 160 yards in his first collegiate start, while Manning connected on 18 of 42 for 241 yards. DePauw's Bryan Mulligan and Chris Gasbarra each caught four passes, while VanEerden led Hope with six grabs.

Reed Scherrer led the Tigers with seven tackles and matched Batko and Farrow with an interception. DePauw recorded three sacks as Hertel had two and Davila one.

Zach Huizing paced Hope with 13 tackles followed by Colin Balas with 11 and Matt Rugenstein with 10. Rugenstein was in on all five of Hope's sacks and finished with 4.5 as part of 7.5 tackles for loss.

DePauw opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, September 23, when it travels to Trinity for a 7:30 p.m. CDT game.
