Tigers finish second at SCAC Championship

April 30, 2006, Sewanee, Tenn. - DePauw battled back from a 5-0 deficit to send the game to extra innings, but Trinity captured the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship in extra innings with three in the eighth in an 8-5 victory.

 

DePauw finished the regular season at 31-10, while Trinity improved to to 29-12. The Tigers will await word next week about a possible at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

 

Trinity scored one in the third when Mandy Chastang doubled to right center and scored on a DePauw fielding error. They added four in the sixth on three hits and two DePauw errors.

Ashley Sewell hit a three-run homer in the sixth and Lauren Rees hit a two-run shot with two outs in the seventh to tie the game.

 

Trinity's Melissa Johnson hit a two-run homer in the eighth and Chastang wrapped up the scoring with an RBI double.

Erin Muley improved to 12-5 with the win, while Katherine Veatch dropped to 13-2.
