February 10, 2006, Danville, Ky. - Alex Stewart scored four points in the final 3.4 seconds of regulation to send the game to overtime, but Centre outscored the Tigers 19-12 in the extra session to claim a 76-69 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference overtime victory.
DePauw dropped to 10-12 overall and 6-6 in the SCAC, while Centre improved to 15-6 overall and 7-4 in the conference.
The Tigers trailed 57-53 with 3.4 seconds left in regulation before Stewart hit the first of two free throws. Following a DePauw timeout, Stewart intentionally missed the second charity toss and the ball bounced out-of-bounds off of a Centre player. Stewart then knocked down a three-pointer at the buzzer to force the overtime. Centre scored seven straight early in the overtime and never trailed on the way to the win.
The first half included eight ties and four lead changes as Centre went to the break with a 27-24 lead on Thomas Britt's three-pointer with 11 seconds remaining. The Colonels took as much as a six-point advantage early in the second half before DePauw battled back with 11 straight to take a 37-32Â lead.
DePauw led by as many as six after Austin Brown scored with 7:20 remaining to make it 51-45. The Tigers then went over six minutes without a score as Centre scored nine consecutive points to grab a 54-51 lead.
Stephen Schott hit two free throws with 1:01 left to cut the gap to one before Reggie Magnusson nailed two free throws with 46 seconds left and Matt Jacobson hit one with 9.9 seconds remaining to make it 57-53.
Stewart led DePauw with 20 points followed by Matt McDonald with 15 and Schott with 13. Magnusson paced Centre with 31 with Jacobson adding 15 and Matt Nestheide following with 15.
Centre outrebounded DePauw 40-32 and were led by Coy Zerhusen with 10. McDonald led DePauw with six.
DePauw travels to Sewanee for a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday, while Centre hosts Rose-Hulman.Â
