24th-ranked Tigers top Scarlet Hawks

December 17, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - The 24th-ranked Tigers knocked down their first seven shots and led 19-2 just seven minutes into the game on the way to an 84-63 win over Illinois Tech.

DePauw improved to 7-1 with its sixth straight win, while the Scarlet Hawks dropped to 3-9.

Austin Brown scored 21 of his career-high 27 points in the first half as the Tigers shot 68 percent from the floor in taking a 53-18 halftime advantage.

Three other Tigers scored in double figures with Reid Sakel chipping in 13 and Stephen Schott and Matt McDonald each adding 10.

Schott paced the Tigers with nine rebounds, while Mike Moore dished out five assists and, along with Sakel, had three steals.

Jeremy Nixon led Illinois Tech with 20 points, while Bobby McQueen chipped in 14 and Sasha Sudar recorded a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.

DePauw shot 52.5 percent from the floor for the game and hit 11-of-22 three-pointers with Brown and Sakel each knocking down four. Illinois Tech shot 45.9 percent from the floor including 57 percent in the second half. DePauw held a 36-29 edge on the boards.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, December 20, when they travel to Kenyon for a 2 p.m. contest. That game can be heard on WGRE (91.5 FM).
