November 4, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw scored 24 points in the first 18 minutes of its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game with Austin on the way to a 24-14 victory. DePauw improved to 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the SCAC, while the Kangaroos dropped to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference. The Tigers finished with a 4-0 home record for their first unbeaten season at Blackstock Stadium since 1996 and just their second in the last 22 years.

The Tigers scored on each of their first four series with Jeremiah Marks getting it started just 2:40 into the game on a 27-yard run that capped an 8-play, 69-yard drive. Austin matched it with Ryan Cowley's 12-yard run with 7:12 left in the first, but Marks gave DePauw the lead for good with a 1-yard run with 4:08 remaining in the quarter. Two plays prior to the score, Marks rambled 23 yards to the two and broke Bart Simpson's DePauw single-season record of 1,009 rushing yards.

On Austin's first play of the next series, DePauw defensive end Dustin Hertel sacked the Kangaroos' Kent Bell for an 11-yard loss on first down and, on second down, forced Bell into a fumble that Luis Davila recovered at the Austin 19. Three plays later, the Tigers made it 21-7 on Daniel Stauffer's 1-yard run.

Late in the first quarter it was another Tiger defensive play that set up a score. Austin's Brett Anderson fumbled after a hit by Ian MacLeod and Hertel recovered at the Austin 36. Tyler Mallory then capped a 7-play drive with a 34-yard field goal which made it 24-7 with 12:33 left in the first half.

The Kangaroos' final score came in the fourth after Scooter Means intercepted Spud Dick's pass at the Austin 39. Nine plays later Cowley made it 24-14 on a 6-yard run with 7:43 left.

DePauw outgained Austin 367-184 and held a 201-155 advantage on the ground. Marks totaled 67 yards in seven carries in just two series, while Stauffer finished with 67 yards in 17 tries and Dorrius Ford added 56 yards in 13 attempts. Cowley led Austin with 86 rushing yards in 14 attempts and Anderson followed with 49 yards in 13 tries.

Dick completed 13 of 24 passes for 166 yards to eight different receivers with Bryan Mulligan catching four and Chris Gines three. Austin's three quarterbacks completed two of six passes for 29 yards, but were intercepted twice.

Hertel, who ranks third in Division III in tackles for loss and fourth in sacks, finished with 16 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 2 hurries, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Greg Sylvester followed with 10 tackles and an interception, while J.J. Costello had the other interception. Means paced Austin with 12 tackles and an interception with Nick Youngblood adding eight tackles.

DePauw wraps up the 2006 season on November 11 when it travels to Wabash College for the 113th meeting with the Little Giants and 75th for possession of the Monon Bell. Kickoff is slated for just after 1 p.m. in Crawfordsville.
