April 5, 2005, Franklin, Ind. - The DePauw softball team improved to 16-9-1 following a doubleheader sweep at Franklin. The Tigers won the first game by a 4-3 score and took the nightcap, 10-5. Franklin dropped to 5-7 on the season.

Caroline Provan provided the game-winning hit in the first game when her two out single to right in the seventh scored Lauren Curosh.

The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Curosh doubled home Kristy Mahon who led off the game with a single. Franklin put together four consecutive singles in the first to tie the score at 1-1. DePauw regained the lead in the third when Ashley Sewell's single scored Curosh.

The Grizzlies scored twice in the third to take a 3-2 advantage as Rachel Turner drove in both with a single to left center. DePauw then tied the contest at 3-3 in the top of the fourth when Nicole Kernan drove in Hillary Enyart with a sacrifice fly to center.

Each team had 11 hits with Curosh, Sewell, Provan and Carli Worthman each collecting two for DePauw. Kristen Karrle had three for Franklin with Turner adding two. Curosh improved to 9-5 with the win, while Turner suffered the loss for Franklin.

In the nightcap, the Tigers scored four in the top of the first as Kernan tripled, Curosh reached on an infield single and Sewell singled home Kernan. Jessica Bowlds singled to score Curosh before Provan reached on an error that scored Sewell.  Bowlds came home on Katy Lujan's bunt single.

The Tigers added one more in the second before the Grizzlies scored twice in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double by Jennifer Hiner. In the third, DePauw scored four more as Carli Worthman ripped an RBI double to center and Mahon and Kernan followed with run-scoring singles. Mahon made it 9-2 when she scored on a passed ball.

Heather Watson's triple scored Jill Carson in the sixth before Sarah Owens' sacrifice fly plated Watson. Margo Mast doubled with two outs and Hines followed with an RBI single. The Tigers added their final run in the seventh.

The Tigers pounded out 15 hits with Curosh collecting four and Kernan and Lujan each adding three. Franklin had nine with Carson, Mast and Hiner each finishing with two. Sarah Flick recorded her first collegiate win to improve to 1-1, while Erika Hanaway suffered the loss.

DePauw returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action with doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday at Sewanee.
