Tigers sweep Panthers to improve to 4-2

March 13, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw improved to 4-2 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Hanover. The Tigers won the first game 6-3 and took the nightcap 10-2.

Hanover reached the scoreboard first in game one on Meredith DeWit's groundout that scored Stephanie Piontek. The Tigers tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning when Laura Schlensker led off with a triple and Whitney Sewell followed with a single.

In the fifth, DePauw scored three times on an RBI-double by Jessica Krueger and a two-run single by Jessica Bowlds. Hanover closed the margin to 4-3 with two runs in the sixth as Sydney Osborn drove in a pair with a single down the right field line.

The Tigers picked up a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth as Caroline Provan drove in Nicole Kernan on a groundout and Krueger came home on a double steal.

Krueger, Schlensker and Bowlds each had two of DePauw's eight hits. Lauren Curosh improved to 3-0 in the season by scattering five hits over seven innings. Piontek suffered the loss for the Panthers.

In the nightcap, the Tigers scored five in the bottom of the third as Kernan drove in Bowlds with a single. Kristy Mahon followed with a two-run triple before Provan and Schlensker each doubled in runs.

Hanover scored once in the fifth as Stephanie Elfers' grounder plated Osborn and then added another in the sixth Jill Boys scored on a DePauw throwing error.

DePauw ended the game with the eight-run rule as it scored five times in the bottom of the sixth. Tanya Corman's fly ball was dropped in center field allowing Schlensker to score and Curosh followed with a run-scoring single after Corman advanced to second on a wild pitch. Hillary Enyart and Mahon singled to load the bases. Krueger then singled in Curosh and Enyart scored on a wild pitch to end the game.

The Tigers pounded out 14 hits led by Mahon, Schlensker and Curosh with three each. DeWit and Danielle Hazelbaker each had two of Hanover's six hits.

Provan improved to 1-0 by allowing just one earned run and six hits, while Boys suffered the loss.

DePauw hosts St. Mary-of-the-Woods on Wednesday in a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader.
