February 18, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - Trinity jumped out to as much as an 11-point first-half lead and never trailed from that point on the way to a 58-50 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over DePauw. DePauw dropped to 11-12 overall and 5-8 in the SCAC with its sixth straight loss, while 16th-ranked Trinity improved to 18-6 overall and 10-3 in the conference.
DePauw held a 15-14 lead midway through the first half before Trinity went on an 8-0 run to take a seven-point lead. Trinity held a 33-27 advantage at the break.
Trinity led 39-31 after Andy Bates scored with 15:15 remaining in the contest, but DePauw rallied with a bucket from Steve Schott, a three-pointer by Alex Stewart and two free throws by Reid Sakel to close the gap to 39-38 with 13:26 left.
The visitors responded with four straight points and eventually extended the margin to as many as 11 with just over one minute to play.
DePauw had its second-worst shooting night of the season at 30.4 percent, but held Trinity to just 40 percent from the floor and 30 percent in the second half.
Stewart led DePauw with 17 points and hit five three-pointers. Sean Devins paced Trinity with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Bates added 10 points and four blocks.
DePauw concludes the SCAC regular season with a home contest against Southwestern on Sunday at noon. That game can be heard on WGRE. Trinity travels to Rose-Hulman on Saturday for an 8 p.m. contest.
