February 11, 2005, Atlanta, Ga. - The Tigers jumped out to an early 12-point lead, but hit just one field goal over a stretch of nearly 17 minutes in a 62-51 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference loss at Oglethorpe.
DePauw dropped to 11-10 overall and 5-6 in the conference, while the Stormy Petrels improved to 12-10 overall and 6-5 in the SCAC.
The Tigers put together 14-2 run including nine straight points to take a 21-9 lead with 10:33 remaining in the first half, but missed their next 11 shots. Oglethorpe knotted the score at 22 with a 13-1 run of its own before the Tigers went to the break with a 24-22 lead.
The Stormy Petrels scored the first eight points of the second half and the Tigers missed their first eight shots of the half giving the hosts a 30-24 lead.
The Oglethorpe lead reached as many as 13 points at 43-30 before the Tigers cut the deficit to five on a couple of occasions with the last coming on Brian Oilar's three-point play with 4:19 left.
Eric Dickinson hit a pair of three-pointers and the Stormy Petrels hit three of four free throws to push the margin back to 12 with less than a minute to play.
Alex Stewart led the Tigers with 17 points and Todd Capes equaled a career high with eight boards. Dickinson paced Oglethorpe with 23 points, while Russ Churchwell posted a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Andrew Tulowitzky added 11 points.
The Tigers shot just 33.9 percent from the floor including just six of 26 from three-point range. The Stormy Petrels connected on only 39 percent of its shots, but hit 52 percent in the second half.
DePauw travels to Millsaps for a noon CST contest on Sunday.
